Medications for rare diseases and low prevalence diseases
They are medications for the treatment of rare diseases (RD) or infrequent diseases; that is, they have a low prevalence in the population. To be considered as rare, each specific disease can only affect a limited number of people. Specifically, when it affects less than 5 in 10,000 inhabitants.
However, infrequent pathologies affect a large number of people, since according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are about 7,000 rare diseases that affect 7% of the world’s population.

A drug will be considered supply-problems if it affects a high percentage of the sample pharmacies for 3 or more days of the week or if a large majority of them are affected during a single day.
